Geocache Description:

Memories of the old Boy Scout Camp

There is parking off Morningstar Road or at the top of the hill in the park. The cache is closer to the lot in the park but this is not always open. This cache is across a flat field from the upper parking lot and is wheelchair accessible.

I spent many summers here as a Boy Scout at summer camp. Near here you will find a marker that gives some information regarding the original donars of the land to the Boy Scouts of America. There is an amphitheater here with a fire ring in the same location that we would have our 'all-camp' summer camp fires. The flames would shoot 15' high. Just to the east of here, past the fire ring, you will see a trail going down a steep hill. We had to pull our 'dog sleds' up this hill every year during the annual Klondike Derby. It is affectionately referred to as 'Devil's Backbone'. To the west of here, in the parade field, stood a large 1-story log building that was our dining hall.

We decided to place a few scout patches in this cache. Please feel free to leave a patch and take one.

We have permission from Metroparks for this cache and the permit # is 3-12-2036.

Enjoy the find.
