Easy grab and go with large parking area for RV's and Semi's. Lots of pine cones. This cache is in honor of Chimney Rock's twin towers, now a national monument, which, rising from a 90 million year old seabed, stand 300 feet above the surrounding mesa. The smaller tower was named Companion Rock in the 1920's. The largest of the pueblos at Chimney Rock was built in A.D. 1076. It is unknown what brought the ancient pueblo dwellers here, but it is believed they considered it to be a sacred site. At the height of it's existance, it had over 200 rooms and housed approximately 2000 people. It burned in A.D. 1125 and they abandoned the site. If you have time, go south on Highway 151 for a few miles to the Chimney Rock Interpretive Center and take the tour. Bring water to drink.
It's an amazing place and the view from the top is astounding!
