This virtual cache is on the University of Calgary campus, in the Engineering Complex courtyard. It is a cairn that honours the centennial anniversay of the engineering profession in Canada.
The coordinates of the cairn are given on a plaque in a number of coordinate systems. (The coordinates given above are the average coordinates for everyone who has found this cache as of March 9, 2003. Well, just about everyone.)
It isn’t clear to me whether the “Astronomic” coordinates given are WGS-84 or not, but the waypoints I took are within one second of longitude and are exactly correct in latitude. That being said, D.M.S format is not as precise as decimal minute format, and the cairn's coordinates put me about 20m from the cairn.
If you can figure out what the given WGS-84 numbers mean, please share it.
In order to log a find, email me the D.M.S coordinates given on the plaque. If you do log a find, please post the coordinates of the cairn that you get from your GPSr so we can collectively check the accuracy of the cairn.
