This is one of the larger and nicer Public Access areas around Lake Mitchell. There is a picnic shelter here, parking and you can see the water! Seriously, some of the “access” areas are only a thin strip of land between houses and you have to fight the trees to get to the water.
While doing some research on the lake at the Carnegie Resource Center, I came across an article from 1931 about the nearby housing area. The city council put up for auction 30 lots, none of them to be sold for less than $100. The lots had been appraised at $200-$250, no mention of how much the lots actually sold for. Fast forward to 2012…….one of the nearby houses just sold for $325,000. If it was the original family that owned it, that was a good investment.
