Geocache Description:

Quick stroll through Paradise Park. Beware of muggles at all times.

Paradise Park is something of a hidden gem. It is ‘hidden’ as most of it lies below the level of the various roads that give access to it. The thousands of motorists going to-and-from work who curse being held up at the traffic lights nearby, probably never look at the very modest entrance to this surprisingly large park. It is a dog-leg that follows the Liesbeek River from its exit under the Paradise Road Bridge (also Edinburgh Drive), through its snaking journey to the doorstep of the Vineyard Hotel (the famous 1799 site of the original modest, single story house of Lady Ann Barnard – a very colourful member of the early Cape community … but that’s another story).

Until recently, the park was host to a famous CapeDoc cache involving LOTS of micro’s. It had also fallen into a horrible state of repair and was a resting place for the homeless as well as a drug-dealing area. The Friends of Paradise Park are trying their best to work with the City to transform the park and make it a useful and valuable asset again. Take a pic or two from Stage 1 (we might get a nice picture journey as it changes over time). Notice the trees which have had their bark removed? This is an illegal activity still plaguing the area (it kills the trees, and once it is done, there is no turning back the clock…).

This is a fairly simple multi-stage cache. The final is in an area of pretty poor reception – so trust your GPSr as far as you dare. Beware of muggles at all times!

Stage 1 is at the given co-ordinates.
Here you need to determine:
A = the number of 'steps' you can see if you look southwest/upstream
B = The number of uprights in the safety feature on which you are standing (facing upstream)
C = The number of swings (working or not) to your Southsouth East
D = The number of people sitting on the bench to your Southsouth East
E = The number of horizontal pipes on the safety feature on which you are standing (facing upstream)

Stage 2 is at (approximately): S 33° 58.722 E 018° 27.341
You are looking for a small bridge over the river. You want to determine:
F = The number of horizontal struts in one side (upstream) of the railing.
G = The number of wooden beams over the crossing minus 20

Stage 3 is at: S 33° 58.805 E 018° 27.245
You need the following:
HIJ = The number you'd call in an emergency (from a landline).

The final is therefore at:
S 33 (B)(J+H).(A)(G-C)(E-F)
E 018 (A-G)(C+E).(G-F)(H)(I)
Remember: GPS reception is a MESS here - I took over two dozen readings and used Google Maps to help - so use your GPSr, but trust your instincts (don't go falling down the slope - even if your 'trusty' GPSr tells you to....).

CONGRATULATIONS to Nooj, butter-free and gevious for your group FTF!! Good job!
