Geocache Description:

A cache in the old deserted village of Paliama, near the old church of Agios Charalambos.

2 km to the north of the small village of Moroni there are the ruins of an old, deserted settlement called Paliama. The name has its origin in the Venetian occupation of Crete – Pagliama -, as in 1583 it was first recorded with few inhabitants. The only building that has been preserved is the church of Agios Charalambos.

The area is covered with olive and oak trees. In the summer many people visit the place and relax in the cool shade of the trees.

You can drive there from the village of Moroni following the signs to the Monumental Olive Tree, where there is another cache. At WP1, turn into the road towards Gergeri. At WP2 turn into a good dirt road. Then you can drive to the cache or park somewhere near there.

The cache is hidden in an old building nearby. It’s a small plastic container wrapped in a plastic bag with the geocaching note, a logbook, a pen and some goodies to trade. Please, hide it well again.
