Geocache Description:

Join us for the observation of the Transit of Venus across the sun. This is a rare astronomical event that happens only twice with each pair separated by over a century. Your next chance to view this event will be in December 2117!

We will start our observing around 6:00 pm when Venus will initially start it's transit. The shadow of the planet will be fully visible at 6:22 pm. We will be observing the transit until sunset at 8:57pm.

Listed coordinates will take you to parking. Once you arrive be sure to sign the log book!

Observation:
Here in North America we won't be able to view the full transit of Venus, however we will be able to observe it at sunset. Lucky enough for us, Willowick Lakefront Park is a perfect place to view the sunset this time of year!

Caution!!
It is very important that you do not look directly at the sun as it will cause permanent eye damage. We will have special solar glasses for you to use to safely view the sun as well as a large telescope projection so that the event can be safely viewed. I may also have an assortment of camera filters available. Eclipse Glasses - Eclipse Shades® Safe Solar Glasses-Pack of 5 These are the solar shades that will be available for your use. You may want to buy your own sets to bring if you would like to have them available for future solar eclipses or other events.

Celebration:
A transit party wouldn't be complete without cake. Tasty deserts and beverages will be provided.
