Geocache Description:

Early Settlements. -- Paul Moore, who was one of the company that visited this territory in 1766, was, with Colonel Doolittle and John Crigo, the first settler in Shoreham. He was born in Worcester, Mass., in 1731; ran away from home at the age of twelve years and went to sea, passing thereafter more than twenty years of his life upon the ocean. After relinquishing the seaman's life he came to Vermont with some of the soldiers in the French War.

This Marker and cache are located a quarter mile from Moore's Mill site. Located on the Crown Point Road it was a major stop over on the trek to #4 and served as a base for Major Benjamin Whitcomb's Scouts during the American Revolution. Read Ida Washington's "Carlton's Raid" for further history on Moore and his Mill.
