The Duffin's Creek watershed is a pricelss legacy to the community and it is our duty to ensure this environment is maintained and the watersheds are healthy.
This CITO is part of a local commitment to keep the watershed and the lands close to the creek clean and free of contaminants that might leach into the creek. This location on Church Street in Ajax is a popular spot for fishermen who can park and fish along Duffin’s creek. The Duffin’s creek trail system is just 100m to the north and cyclists can ride the paved trail south or the dirt packed trail north.
Over the years, this area has also become a dumping ground for waste and electronics as well as debris that floats down the creek and gets trapped along the shore. I am inviting local geocachers to join me to help clean up the Duffin’s Creek watershed starting in the parking location alongside Church Street. If anyone has a canoe or kayak and would be willing to take a paddle downstream to pick up any debris please indicate that in your “will attend” note.
There is plenty of garbage in the parking location to start our clean-up, and after that area is cleared, we can start to walk the shoreline both north and south of the parking spot.

The shoreline of Duffin’s creek can be steep in some locations and if the water is running fast it can be treacherous. Since this winter has been so mild, there is not a lot of melt but we can still get some good rains which can quickly raise the water level.
