Parking on road at Ford Rise next to Devonshire Park playing fields. The terrain is not suitable for Wheelchairs or Bikes, is used by Muggles walking their dogs so stealth may be required, it can be muddy in places, please take care after lots of rain.
3rd in the series of our short tour of the old Bideford Zoo site.
As you walk towards this cache you can see Ford House, the old Zoo house and the converted water mill.
The Zoo opened on the 29th May 1966. The original inhabitants included sea lions, bears and raccoons. Unfortunately the Zoo closed only 4 years later on the 17th October 1970. Most animals were rehomed in other Zoo’s.
Ford House, the original zoo house has been recently converted to apartments, is still standing even though the animal enclosures have now gone, it is now surrounded by housing.
This is a fairly short yet pleasant walk, Whilst walking you may hear woodpeckers busy at work or hear birds of prey high above, there will be a squirrel or 2 darting across the natural paths, the bluebells put on a fantastic display in spring.
This is a film Canister with a £1 coin for FTF, please bring your own pen to complete the log.
