Geocache Description:

This is another (potentially the last) cache in my ongoing Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. The cache was placed on what would have been Douglas Adams' 60th birthday and is hidden in his honour.
The cache is not at the listed co-ordinates.

If the answer is 42, what is the question?

At the end of the first radio series, the television series, and the book The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (the second book of the five-book 'trilogy'), Arthur Dent, having escaped the Earth's destruction, potentially has some of the computational matrix in his brain. He attempts to discover The Ultimate Question by extracting it from his brainwave patterns, by pulling Scrabble letters at random out of a bag. The result is the sentence:

What do you get if you multiply six by nine?

Several explanations have been proposed for how six times nine could possibly be forty-two. The one that Douglas Adams jokingly dismissed will let you discover the cache at:

20608774293508356

The cache itself is an ammo can and GZ can be accessed from either end of a public footpath. It doesn't matter which end you choose to start from, neither will get you to the cache quicker than the other. Parking is very close by at either location.

At the time of placing, the cache contained the following:

  • Stash card
  • Log book
  • Pen
  • Pencil
  • Phone cable
  • Two flags
  • TB: Cap’n One Eye Trackable Tag 1
and to keep with the theme of the cache name, it also contains...

  • Book: Zenisms by David Bell
  • Book: Touching From A Distance: Ian Curtis and Joy Division by Deborah Curtis
  • Book: Why Don't Penguins' Feet Freeze? by New Scientist
  • Book: Does Anything Eat Wasps? by New Scientist
  • Book: How To Live With A Neurotic Cat by Stephen Baker
Please trade fairly if you choose to trade and leave something interesting for the next cacher.
