So I am sure most of you heard about the Solar Flares we had. Well they didn't have a big effect on much. The 2 pictures here are from The Solar Flare or CME on March the 8th, but this one did: Aug. 1859 Telegraph systems all over Europe and North America failed, in some cases even shocking telegraph operators. Telegraph pylons threw sparks and telegraph paper spontaneously caught fire. Some telegraph systems appeared to continue to send and receive messages despite having been disconnected from their power supplies and some scientists say that there is a good chance something like this can still happen and if it does us GPS user's will be in serious trouble. No GeoCaching! But then there are the scientist that say it won't happen. No electricity because transformers blow up and they take time to replace, days, months, years. Can you imagine what it would be like without electricity for a year? even a week? Things would come grinding to a stop real fast. I don't even know if you can prepare for such a thing. People who live in the mid-west people who are used to going with out electricity for long periods would fare the best, but us here on the west coast no. I imagine complete chaos. What will we do? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_storm_of_1859 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_cycle_24 http://www.ancient-world-mysteries.com/2012.html
