Geocache Description:

This is the fifth and last placement of the "Hang Ten" level in the Agony of Defeet series. Each placement at this level,is footwear that corresponds to the sport being played at a nearby sports venue. Al Kaline is probably the most popular player ever to wear a Tiger uniform (and I don't say that just because I have a ball that he autographed for me!) Kaline joined the Tigers right out of high school, as an 18 year-old "bonus baby". In 1955 at the age of 20, Kaline became the youngest player ever, to win the American League batting championship. But Kaline was not only known for his hitting. He also won 10 Golden Glove Awards. He was also voted as an all-star 15 times and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, in 1980, becoming only the tenth player to be inducted in his first year of eligibility. In 1980, he was honored by the Tigers, as the first player to have his uniform number retired! In 1999, the street behind the left field stands in Tiger Stadium, was renamed, Kaline Drive. Even after his playing days ended, Kaline continued to work for the Tigers organization in various capacities. Who was the battery for the Tigers when Al Kaline broke into the major leagues? Some names you might recognize are Hal Newhouser, Billy Hoeft, Joe Ginsberg, and Matt Batts. NOTE: Forgot to mention that this is a high traffic area from April - September, so please use stealth like Lou Brock or Ricky Henderson would. Thanks. PLEASE,PLEASE, PUT THIS BACK EXACTLY WHERE YOU FOUND IT!! IT'S TOO TEMPTING TO OTHERS WHEN IT IS LEFT AT A LOW, EASY-TO-REACH LEVEL. THANKS!! Congratulations to Climb Guy for the first to find> FTF gets the new Dutchgrandpa path tag.
