Geocache Description:

Easy park'n'grab cache at a local historic spot

Henry Hinton was born 20 Aug 1828 in Castle Coombe Wiltshire, England. He married Sarah Ann Hatheral and had twelve children, one of whom, Charlotte, died in childhood. He left England for Australia & then onto New Zealand, as a private in the Waikato militia 4th regiment. He was given a town section in Hamilton East and a country section towards Eureka; the area you are standing on was part of Henry's 50 acre farm section - Hinton's Gully.

A great great granddaughter, Dianne Yates, was successful in her bid for the Hamilton East parliamentary seat for the Labour Party, Nov 1993. She remained in parliament until retiring at the end of Mar 2008.
