Newport Sea Wall Traditional Cache
alderwoolf: I am disabling this cache temporarily until I find a more suitable location very close to the original after the winter.
Over the years it's current location has become very muddy after rain, and I believe this is no longer a sensible location to find, especially over the winter months.
I will re-enable this cache by early March 2026 in a better location.
Thanks for your understanding.
Happy geocaching!

Enjoy lovely views of the River Severn Estuary and seabirds as you walk along the Newport Sea Wall in search of this traditional cache (take a pen!)
Please take a complimentary postcard if present in the cache.
The River Severn Estuary is home to many seabirds who rely on the exposed mudflats at low tide for food. Enjoy a fine walk along the Newport Sea Wall near Goldcliff in search of a traditional cache - see "Additonal Waypoints" below for parking details. Goldcliff gets it's name from the way the cliff rocks glint yellow in the sun as seen by passing ships.
This whole area is defined as an SSSI (Sites of Special Scientific Interest) so please be careful what you do. The cache has been placed with the kind permission of the Countryside Council for Wales and Newport City Council.
Although the footpath along the Sea Wall is flat, there are a few "kissing" gates and a small but very steep slope to negotiate to and from the cache site, so not suitable for wheelchairs. In wet weather it can get very muddy in the vicinity of the cache site!
You are looking for a small container placed somewhere on a footpath off the Sea Wall. Please take a pen/pencil to write in the log.
Original contents include FTF certificate, Sea Wall postcards, assorted shells, Buzzcocks badge, Welsh Blood Service trolley token (A- blood type), Ikea pencil with rubbber top!
Please take a complimentary postcard if present in the cache.
Also take a photograph of your journey and post it - it would be great to see a collection of images of the Severn Estuary in all weathers and seasons, and try and take photos of the birds and other wildlife you encounter as well.
After returning to the car park, why not keep going in the same direction for a just a short distance to see more views, including a disused light beacon and a large ship's anchor!
