Geocache Description:

This multi-cache spans the Gerald Desmond Bridge that will be replaced over the next 5 years. To do it right, you will need to walk across the bridge on the pedestrian walkway with grated metal floor. Oh the trucks make that metal bounce! You will need to walk about a 1/4 mile on a paved pedestrian path (finding WP1) and climb 2 dozen or so stairs to get to the bridge and down another couple dozen stairs on the other side (finding WP2).

Path entrance is off of Pico Ave. East of the cache. It is 1.3 miles from the start of the pedestrian path to the final cache (took us 23 minutes, one way).

A few weeks ago I was crossing this bridge on the way back to work after a lunchtime caching trip in San Pedro. I'd crossed it many times before but that day I noticed something I hadn't before- a pedestrian pathway attached to the bridge! Scary!

I have since investigated and found how to get on the bridge. The other day I actually got my nerve up to walk out a ways and see how scary it was. Today I got back with a container and my boys and we walked the bridge and placed the cache for all to enjoy!

The bridge is being replaced and thanks to the late Mark Bixby it will have a Class 1 path: a pedestrian path and a separate two-way bicycle path, partitioned from traffic. Yay! I look forward to visiting my cache regularly and watching the new bridge being built next to this one. About the Replacement Project.

This background photo shows the underside and support structure of the pedestrian path. Enjoy!

So, can you get yourself up for this?
