Cache #2 in the 'Abby "does" ' series.
Abby "sPlashes" was our first cache placement in an area that we walk almost daily and where she loves to swim no matter the time of year. After placing a few more caches about the cape we decided we wanted to make a series and came up with the Abby "does" idea, we decided to also make sPlashes the starting point. All of the caches in this series can be found from one parking area but the walk is a long one to grab them all. Additional parking area waypoints have been added to each cache to let you decide how long a hike you want to go on in case you're not up for a 3+ mile walk (roundtrip). Each cache name in this series will have a reference to the area or an aspect of the hide itself. We love the devious ones but also appreciate a few simple ones in between so that's what you'll get with this series.
This bison tube micro cache is placed near Horse Pond in West Yarmouth. It's not right down next to the water but there's a bench down near the water to sit on and enjoy the water after your search.
As for parking:
You can make this a nice hike, roughly a mile and a half or more depending on your path, by parking on the side of west yarmouth road at N41 40.168 W070 13.675 opposite the cranberry bogs between buck island and old townhouse rd. You are able to walk to all caches in this series from this spot. Terrain difficulty based on the walk from this spot.
You can also park on Russell rd, N41 39.935 W070 14.104 right where it says "No motor vehicles beyond this point" to make it a .6 mile walk round trip and it is a pretty straight forward walk from there to the cache as well. You won't have to make many "what path to take" decisions like you will from west yarmouth rd. There are a lot of trails out here and they're all well maintained.
You can also park at a small parking area on Higgins-Crowell rd. When coming off of Buck Island onto higgins-crowell heading towards route 6 it will be on your right, not that far from the traffic lights.
Cache is less than 20 feet off the trail if the gpsr sends you elsewhere. Please don't post any pictures or logs that might give away the cache and as always please hide as found. Thanks!! Enjoy!!
