Chattahoochee Bend Spring Fling Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Baxter929: Thank you everyone for a great event! This event had nearly 100 attendees, of whom over 75 ran, hiked, and lumbered along the FTX course.

FTX Results: Congrats to the Shark Tank in First Place, Team CacheCab in Second, and both Confederacy of Dunces & I Hunt For Cache in tying for Third.

FTX Honorable Mentions: GA Extreme Team with a blistering time of 2 hours, 20 minutes and the Road Warriors for persevering over 6 hours to complete the course. Plus a shout-out to the youngest hikers, 5 year old Isabella & 3 year old Ethan, placing Third with their mommy & daddy on the I Hunt For Cache Team.

Special thanks to Park Manager Trint and his staff for welcoming geocachers and the placement of over 20 new caches in Chattahoochee Bend State Park. Many thanks to CO’s Martin FFG and Firemanbrad for donating entire days and funds to truly incredible hides which will now be enjoyed by many cachers. The total of the Donations Bucket came within $3 of total expenses, so thank you, thank you to all who contributed. Thanks for the positive reviews in the logs which reflect a fun time had by all which is why we geocache.

Special thanks to our sponsors, Atlanta Area Geocachers, the NW Metro Atlanta Cachers, and the Going Caching Crew who are creating the premier Mega event of Georgia, Going Caching 2012: Going Coastal One More Time! (GC3EJ97), where we hope to see you this November 8-11 at Skidaway Island State Park, near Savannah, Georgia!

Geocache Description:

Come visit the newest bend in the Chattahoochee River!

Actually, this huge, graceful bend in the Hooch has been there a long time and now we have access to it! We have rented a river-side shelter with several grills in Georgia’s newest state park, Chattahoochee Bend. With 2,910 acres along seven miles of river frontage, there is something for everyone: food, fellowship, and a special mission to find new caches.

chattahoochee

Saturday, May 19, 2012, gather with your friends for food, finds and fellowship. Bring the whole family! Our shelter will be next to the playground for the youngsters and have plenty of seats for all to watch the river roll by.

Plus a team challenge with new geocaches!

Park Manager Trint needs your help. Rogue geocachers have hidden at least a dozen new caches along a five-mile level-terrain trail. Park Manager Trint is willing to allow these caches to be published on two conditions, that they are well-hidden from muggles and are fun for cachers!

FTX in military terms means Field Training Exercise. In this FTX, your team will be deputized by Park Manager Trint, given the coordinates, and then taken to a secret location to begin your mission of taking team pictures at each cache. Caches will be near the trail so little bushwhacking needed. Once they are activated after the event, log them as smileys (assuming you find them!).

You do not need to participate in the FTX to attend this event! Come hang, eat, and watch the waters go by with others by the Hooch. Nearby trails not on the designated FTX course will have a series of additional new caches to discover, too.

Food: Hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, and water will be provided. Please note the side item you hope to share (i.e. pasta salad, chips, baked goods like cookies or cupcakes, potato salad, deviled eggs, popcorn) in your "Will Attend" log. Bring whatever you want to drink other than water too (no alcoholic beverages in GA State Parks).

Camping: Options available include RV campsites, tent walk-in campsites, tent popup campsites, platform campsites, and Adirondack-style shelters. Reservations may be made online at gastateparks.org or by calling 1-800-864-7275 weekdays 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and weekends 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Weekend reservations require a two night minimum stay.
