Geocache Description:

2x2x6 plastic container

Wahconah Park has been home to organized baseball from 1892 to today.

Photobucket

An important fact considering that Pittsfield has had a by-law prohibiting anyone from playing "baseball" within 80 yards of the new meeting house dating back to 48 years before baseball was invented in 1839 by Abner Doubleday in Cooperstown.

If authentic and if actually referring to a recognizable version of the modern game, the 1791 document, would be the earliest known reference to the game in America. The document is available on the Pittsfield Library's web site.

The stadium was constructed in 1919 and was home to The Pittsfield Mets from 1989 to 2000. The Pittsfield Mets were a minor league team affiliated with the New York Mets

So come on down, bring your own ball and shoot a few hoops at Wahconah Park

Congratulations to DJ and CAL on the FTF!
