Geocache Description:

On the top of Kindrogan Hill near the Ordinance Survey Triangulation Station on land owned by the Forestry Commission. Cache placed with the kind permission of the Forestry Commission Scotland.

Before trying to find this cache, it is recommended that you should go to the Forestry Commission Scotland - Interactive map and zoom in to the highest resolution to see the route from the East Lodge at Kindrogan to the OS triangulation station.

Parking is available at Enochdhu village or if you ask permission, at the Kindrogan Field Centre car park.

Strong waterproof boots are essential in all seasons and warm waterproof clothing may be necessary on the summit. Allow about 50 minutes to get to the summit.

The footpath is narrow, steep and wet in places and has all but disappeared through lack of use, although some of the original Trail posts are visible. Care must be taken on the rougher parts of the path.

Take the Forestry Commission road going up from ther East Lodge for about 50 metres and the Hill Trail goes off to the right at the first bend. Follow the path until you come to cross the forestry road just along from the graveyard. Cross the road and the Trail path more or less follows the burn until the burn turns into the main forest and the rest of the trail path starts there.

Alternatively, turn left from the entrance to the field centre and go 10 meters along towards the East Lodge. Take the wide track uphill to the graveyard. When you reach the forestry road at the graveyard turn left for about 50 metres and pick up the track from the East Lodge going up towards Kindrogan Hill.

In places you will have to climb over, under or around fallen trees. It is recommended that you return by the same route as you ascended. The old trail down to Balnald is not visible over most of its length and fallen timber is a very serious hazzard.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Update by GCUK April 2017 - Very sadly Charlie Brown (ceebee123) passed away in February of this year. Charlie placed a lot of the caches in locations near here. I agreed with Charlie last year that I would take over a few of his caches round here including this one and will endeavour to maintain them to a standard that Charlie would have liked. This cache was the one where we completed our DT grid for the first time and still remains one of the tougest terrain caches we have done despite now having done 126 T5 caches. Unfortunately the route we used and described by Charlie now has even more windblown trees piled on top of each other and needs to be avoided. It is recommended that you follow the stone wall which runs up the hill from south of Enochdhu as shown on the 1:25K OS map and the Forestry Commission map mentioned above and although still challenging in places, it is a safe and achievable route. Update by GCUK March 2023 - Now completed 472 T5 caches and the original route was still one of the toughest T5 caches - after Storm Arwen in 2022 many more trees down but since then there is a waymarked route that has been cleared (using orange posts) from cache #5 to the summit avoiding fallen trees. Suggest you read route notes on cache #1.
