Covid update. You must reserve etickets to get into the Nature reserve. Easy to do. See https://discover.missouribotanicalgarden.org/snr-visit Hidden Valley Trail is a part of the Shaw Nature Reserve trail system but is not marked. Get a map at the visitor center and ask for directions. Permission given by Lydia Toth to place a cache.
A small lock n lock type container hidden in a usual place in the woods. This trail is located between Barn Rd. and Quarry Rd. but is unmarked. It is mowed and maintained. It takes you into a beautiful small valley with a creek and lots of fun places for kids to explore. The prairie and wet lands are close by. Shaw Nature Reserve is 2400 acres and home to tall grass prairies, forests, glades, woodlands, wetlands and a native plant garden. Along with environmental education, restoration and native plant horticulture there are also 14 miles of hiking trails. The Nature Reserve is open from 8 AM to 8 PM during daylight savings time. It closes at 5PM otherwise. All visitors are required to stop at the Visitor Center to register. Pets are not allowed. Fees for non-Missouri Botanical Garden members are $5, seniors & students $3, Children under 12 are free. The Pinetum Loop Rd and the Trail House Loop road are open to cars daily, weather permitting.
