Clue in the name perhaps!
In the autumn of 1306 Robert the Bruce, King of only a few months, crowned after killing John Comyn, was fleeing the English when he took a boat from Carrick Castle. He landed at Port Righ before heading for Dunaverty and then Rathlin Island - one of three places to claim the spider incident. Some historians are uncertain where Bruce spent the winter of 1306-07, options are the Hebrides (possibly sheltered by Christina of Garmoran) or Orkney (under Norwegian rule at the time) or Norway proper although unlikely are not impossible, but local legend says Rathlin after staying in this cave.
