Povoação Velha, é uma aldeia no sudoeste da ilha de Boa Vista.
É a aldeia mais antiga da ilha!
A aldeia fica a cerca de 25 km a sudeste da capital da ilha (Sal Rei) e a cerca de 16 km ao sul de Rabil e está ligada a estas por uma estrada remota.
A aldeia está localizada na parte menos habitada da ilha, a sul, junto com outras duas aldeias. O clima é seco, característico do deserto e com pouca precipitação anual.
As terras são quase indisponíveis para a agricultura e são raras as produções de frutas.
Em redor é na maior parte deserto, com uma montanha chamada Santo António.
O restante da área é plana ao norte e ao sudoeste.
A Praia de Santa Mónica cobre a costa sudoeste que tem aproximadamente 15 km de areia e dunas que se estendem até cerca de 500 m até 1 km para a ilha com a sua altitude média de cerca de 5 a 10 acima do nível do mar.
Trata-se de uma aldeia muito humilde, onde a maioria das casas são construídas com pedra e cimento ou madeira.
Os habitantes são do mais simpático que pode haver, pelo que vale a pena conhecer esta aldeia!

Povoação Velha (Capeverdean Crioulo) is a village in the southwestern part of the island of Boa Vista.
The village is around 25 km southeast of the island capital of Sal Rei and around 16 km south of Rabil and it is linked with a remote road linking with Rabil and the island capital.
The name is because it is the oldest village at Boa Vista!
The village is located in the least populate parts of the island, in which the southern part of 40% of the island is nearly over one person per km² in the area of three villages.
The village is situated in the dry desert climate and it receives little or no precipitation annually. Farmlands are nearly unavailable and are mainly of cattle and rarely some fruit productions and are nearly the size of the football field and its only has about tens of farms, many foodstuffs are received from the northern and the southern parts of the nation. The area are mostly desert, the area are mountainous around the area, the western part and the northeast where a mountain named Santo Antônio is located.
The rest of the area are flat to the north and the southwestern part with no vegetation.
Praia de Santa Mónica covers the southwestern shoreline that has approximately 15 km of sand and sand dunes that extend up to around 500 m to 1 km into the island with its average elevation of around 5 to 10 above sea level.
The central part rises its plains up to nearly 50 to 70 m above sea level. Its soil colour ranges from yellow-brown to red, the mountains are also to the west.
The village is in the island's low class. Most of the houses are built with stone and concrete, several houses are built with either steel reinforced concrete or with stone and wood, a few homes are made up of mud and brick. A part of its population are farmers and are based in agriculture.
The area received no income until the mid to late-20th century and is the island's poorest settlement.
However, a part of the needy materials comes from the island capital, the island capital and the diaspora. But for other needs, electricity, communications and appliances are unavailable in the area as well as phone lines. A part of the necessities also comes from the island capital.
It is a nice village that is worth visiting!
