Ribeira de Rabil


Rabil é a segunda maior cidade da ilha da Boa Vista, localizada a 3 km ao sul da capital  (Sal Rei).

A sua população é de aproximadamente 1.000 habitantes. Rabil está ligada por uma estrada asfaltada que liga Sal Rei e Norte. Para oeste, as ligações fazem-se por troços de terra batida., ligando várias partes da ilha, incluindo o Sul.

É aqui que se situa o aeroporto (poderão apreciar a aterragem dos aviões!!!).

A arquitetura da cidade é maioritariamente tradicional, ou seja, construída com tijolos de barro e pedra.

A área em torno Rabil é quase inteiramente plana e deserta. Várias montanhas podem ser vistas nas partes sul e leste da ilha.

Desde 2000 que a cidade é ponto de passagem obrigatório pela Maratona da Ilha.

Uma parte da população são agricultores, cultivando plantações de banana, abacaxi.



A bacia da Ribeira do Rabil, com 199Km2, é a maior da Boa Vista e drena para o setor centro-oeste da ilha. É quase circular e o curso de água principal é como que uma faixa sudeste-noroeste.

A foz da ribeira para o mar é fechada por um cordão de areia, fruto da acomulação proveniente dos ventos continentais, sendo responsável pelo desenvolvimento de uma lagoa na área terminal. É uma bacia com características de fluxo que promovem a drenagem lenta e de infiltração.



A cache irá levá-lo agradável passeio ao longo da praia, onde poderá desfrutar da fabulosa vista para o Mar!

Rabil is the island's second largest town located 3 km south of the island capital of Sal Rei in the island of Boa Vista, Cape Verde.

Its population is approximately 1,000. Rabil is linked with a paved road linking Sal Rei and Norte, a poor road to the west and a few dirt roads linking to various parts of the island. It is home to the nearby airport. The street plan were made up of desert streets with desert-like mud-brick built homes with some concrete and stone-built homes as well.

The island's marathon run passes through the town and has been since the early to mid-2000s.

The area around Rabil are almost entirely flat and deserted with rocks. Several mountains can be seen to the southern and eastern parts of the island as well as grasses and marshes by the shoreline to the west. there are grasslands within the vicinity of Rabil and the northern part as well as a few farmlands, composing mainly of cattle and wheat as well as barley and other grains, bananas, tomatoes, corn and other fruits and vegetables are rare (there is no irrigation) and are heavily shipped from the islands of Santiago, São Nicolau and other parts of Cape Verde.

A part of the population are farmers and are based in agriculture where banana plantations, pineapple and other crops are common, the rest works in shops, ports and other businesses. Electricity as well as communications, other necessities and phone lines arrived between the mid to late 20th century.


Rabil’s Riverside

The basin of the Ribeira do Rabil, with 199Km2, is the biggest of Boavista and drains to the central-western sector of the island. It is almost circular and the main water course is a general southeast-northwest track.

In the field terminal of the output stream to the sea is closed by a cord coast and sandy wind accumulations of continental origin, being responsible for the development of a lagoon in the area of the mouth. It is a basin with the flow characteristics which promote slow drain and infiltration.


The Cache 

The cache will take you for a pleasant walk along the beach, where you can enjoy the fabulous sea views.

You can also climb the dunes and roll back down!
