Geocache Description:


Since the Edo period, Tokyo has lost many valuable historical buildings because of fires, floods, earthquakes and warfare. Today, the city’s valuable cultural heritage is still being eroded due to social and economic changes. In 1993, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government established the seven-hectare Edo-Tokyo Open-air Architectural Museum as part of the Edo-Tokyo Museum. This museum aims to relocate, reconstruct, preserve and exhibit historical buildings of great cultural value that are impossible to preserve at their actual places as well as to inherit these valuable cultural heritages to future generations. 30 buildings have been relocating and reconstructing buildings in accordance with the requirements for preservation. There is an entrance fee to get into the museum but you do not need to enter the museum to search for the cache.

It is best to visit this cache after hours or on days when the museum is closed for business.

江戸東京たてもの園は、1993年（平成5年）3月28日に開園した野外博物館です。都立小金井公園の中に位置し、敷地面積は約７ヘクタール、園内には江戸時代から昭和初期までの、29棟の復元建造物が建ち並んでいます。当園では、現地保 存が不可能な文化的価値の高い歴史的建造物を移築し、復元・保存・展示するとともに、貴重な文化遺産として次代に継承することを目指しています (visit link)
