BOULDER FIELD - THIRLMERE

Opposite the car park entrance at Armboth there is a public path to Watendlath - you can see the 'Boulder Field' from the start of this walk.
Cross the chunky limestone bridge and go through a gap in the wall. The cascades of Middlesteads Gill can be seen as the stream tumbles down a deep ravine. Now there's a bit of a climb up a green path to the group of angular boulders, perhaps removed from the crag by earth movements, or more likely erratics left by melting ice. Continue to the level of the forest, contained by deer fencing - you can now hear the noisy waters of Fisher Gill over to the left and if you're lucky spot some deer. Either side of the path at this point are the large boulders - no need to panic now there's only about half a dozen at worst to search once in this area.
