La fuente más antigua de Barcelona: La fuente de Hércules
Hércules desnudo, el héroe romano aparece apoyado sobre un garrote y con la piel del león de Nemea envuelta en su brazo izquierdo.
La fuente de Hércules es obra de Salvador Gurri y Josep Moret (1796). Su ubicación inicial estaría en un punto cercano al paseo Lluís Companys, ante el número 8 de la calle Comercio. Cuando deshicieron el antiguo paseo de Sant Joan, la fuente se salvó ya que quedaba en un terreno público sin afectación para las nuevas calles. En realizarse el palacio de Belles Arts, el arquitecto August Font se aseguró de que no tocaran la fuente, hasta que en 1929 fue trasladada hasta su ubicación actual.
Fue el portugués Agustín de Lancaster, tuvo la iniciativa de crear una amplia avenida, el Paseo San Juan, que pasaba por la ciudadela y las primeras casas de la ciudad. El paseo se terminó en 1802, y en septiembre de ese año, el rey Carlos IV la reina viajaron a Barcelona para inaugurar el paseo. La visita real fue toda una fiesta que se prolongó durante varios días con infinidad de actos y celebraciones. Para conmemorar el acontecimiento y el desfile de la comitiva real por el paseo, se eligió el pedestal de la fuente de Hércules para colocar un medallón de mármol con la efigie de los reyes.

The oldest fountain in Barcelona: The Hercules fountain
Naked Hercules, the Roman hero appears resting on a stick and skin of the Nemean lion wrapped in her left arm.
The source of Hercules is the work of Josep Salvador Gurri and Moret (1796). Its original location would be at a point close to Passeig Lluís Companys, with number 8 Commerce Street. When dumped the old Passeig de Sant Joan, the source is saved as a public land was unaffected for new streets. To complete the Palace of Fine Arts, the architect August Font made sure not to touch the source, until in 1929 it was moved to its current location.
It was the Portuguese Augustine of Lancaster, took the initiative to create a wide avenue, Paseo San Juan, passing around the citadel and the first houses in the city. The walk was completed in 1802, and in September of that year, King Charles IV and the Queen traveled to Barcelona to open the ride. The royal visit was quite a party for several days with many events and celebrations. To commemorate this event they chose the pedestal of the fountain of Hercules to place a marble medallion bearing the likeness of kings.
