Charles Dean was a slave of Thomas Settle in the village of Conklin (Loudoun County) for many years. The two families inhabited a pair of log cabins joined together. Upon his death in 1866, Mr. Settle willed his 142-acre property, including the cabin, to Dean and his descendants.
Over time the Settle-Dean house deteriorated. In 1994, restoration began and it was relocated to the West side of Loudoun County Parkway in South Riding, VA.
The extremely short, paved trail to the cabin is located just off another paved trail that runs along the west side of Loudoun County Parkway. I haven't been able to find out much about the history of this cabin online, but it's an interesting historical artifact tucked away just below street level in South Riding!
The cache is a small sized container. The hollow inside it only holds the contents of about a 35mm film canister. Log only. Please bring a writing stick.
