So many little parks amongst the wetlands.... take a stroll in the heart of the residencial area through the connecting trails
We chose the beautiful little peaceful city of Pacific, Washington – nestled in the valley between Seattle {Home of Geocaching!} and Tacoma, just off of hwy 167. The city of Pacific was once a farming community sitting on the wetlands of the lower White River below Mudd Mtn. Although they are only a fat 3 mile square, Pacific has over a dozen Parks, Many with interlinking trails through wetland areas.. Excellent for naturalists and bird watchers to enjoy year round! The interurban trail from Auburn also passes through the city of Pacific and Algona. Making this a wonderful place to spend a day or even more ~ exploring or having an adventure The little City of Pacific has so many little places with open spaces.... trails connect about three park like areas. Some picnic tables a few toys.... There is really a lot you can do in a little space with some creative planning. The wildlife that lives here will amaze you! {even though their not very big} .... This cache is part of the Nature Explore Jr Geo Trek, visit the webpage for more details. (http://adultsforlilsprouts.wordpress.com/) Wetland From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. [1] A wetland is a land area that is saturated with water, either permanently or seasonally, such that it takes on characteristics that distinguish it as a distinct ecosystem.[2] The primary factor that distinguishes wetlands is the characteristic vegetation that is adapted to its unique soil conditions: Wetlands are made up primarily of hydric soil, which supports aquatic plants.[3][4] The water found in wetlands can be saltwater, freshwater, or brackish.[4] Subsets of wetlands include swamps, marshes, and bogs, among others.[5] Wetlands play a number of roles in the environment, principally water purification, flood control, and shoreline stability. Wetlands are also considered the most biologically diverse of all ecosystems, serving as home to a wide range of plant and animal life.[6] Wetlands occur naturally on every continent except Antarctica.[5] They can also be constructed artificially as a water management tool, which may play a role in the developing field of Water Sensitive Urban Design. The study of wetlands has recently been termed paludology in some publications.[7] Wetlands also are known internationally as "inland water," and as "coastal" or "marine" ecosystems. The UN Millennium Ecosystem Assessment determined that environmental degradation is more prominent within wetland systems than any other ecosystem on Earth. International conservation efforts are being used in conjunction with the development of rapid assessment tools to inform people about wetland issues.
