Czesław Miłosz -(ur. 13 czerwca 1911r.w Szetejnicach - zm. 14 sierpnia 2004r. w Krakowie) Polski poeta, prozaik, eseista, tłumacz. Laureat nagrody Nobla w roku 1980 i wielu innych prestiżowych nagród literackich, tłumaczony na czterdzieści dwa języki. Doktor honoris causa wielu uniwersytetów w USA i w Polsce, honorowy obywatel Litwy i miasta Krakowa.
W 2011 roku minęła 100 rocznica od urodzenie Czesława Miłosza. Uchwalony przez Sejm Rok Miłosza był okazją do przypomnienia poety i jego dzieła, a także szansą głębszej refleksji na temat związków jego życia i literatury w zagmatwanym XX wieku. Najważniejszym wydarzeniem Roku Miłosza był Festiwal Literacki, który odbył się w Krakowie w dniach 9-15 maja. Druga edycja tej imprezy nosiła tytuł „Rodzinna Europa” i zgromadziła poetów, pisarzy, tłumaczy i uczonych nie tylko z „Rodzinnej Europy” – Białorusi, Litwy, Polski, Ukrainy, Rosji, Rumunii, Irlandii, Anglii, Włoch, Szwecji, Czech i Turcji - ale także z Chin, Indii, Libanu, Afryki Południowej i Karaibów. Na to wydarzenie w Krakowie odsłonięto pomnik z liniami papilarnymi Czesława Miłosza, gdzie pod poziomem jest rozsypana masa liter, przypominających żwir w ogrodach zen. Czeslaw Milosz - (born June 13th 1911 in Šeteniai (Polish: Szetejnie), Lithuania, in what was then part of the Russian Empire - died August 14th, 2004 in Krakow), Polish poet, novelist, essayist, translator. Nobel laureate in 1980, and many other prestigious literary awards, translated into forty-two languages. Honorary degree Doctor Causa of many universities in the U.S. and Poland, an honorary citizen of Lithuania and the city of Krakow.
2011 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Czeslaw Milosz and the government of Poland took up the initiative to announce 2011 as the “Year of Czeslaw Milosz” an opportunity to remind the poet and his works, and also an opportunity for deeper reflection about the relationship of his life and literature in the tangle of the twentieth century. Milosz's most important event of the year was the Literary Festival, held in Kraków on 9-15 May that year. The second edition of this event was titled "Family Europe" and brought together poets, writers, translators and scholars not only from the "Family Europe" -; Belarus, Lithuanian, Polish, Ukraine, Russia, Romania, Ireland, England, Italy, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Turkey - but also from China, India, Lebanon, South Africa and the Caribbean. At this event in Krakow the monument papilarnymi was installed. The leading motif of the project is the fingerprints of Czesław Miłosz cut into a steel sheet. Strongly blown up, they form an openwork surface. Spilled below is a special kind of aggregate: a plenitude of letters resembling gravel in the Zen gardens. SEARCH FOR A RECTANGULAR BOX
