Geocache Description:


Welcome to Fort Ord Dunes State Park.

This balloon track was used to turn trains that carried ammunition and other supplies to Fort Ord. On the topo maps this is referred to as "Gigling Siding"...reflecting Gigling Reservation, the original name of Fort Ord. The Gigling Family was the original family that owned the land on which Fort Ord is located.

Hours are 8:00 to a half hour after sunset daily. Admission is free. Parking is available by taking 1st Avenue to the 8th Street bridge--follow the signs. Street parking is also availible at 1st Street and 1st Avenue.
