Lookout for Polly Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This cache is placed in the Rhinebeck Cemetery. It is a small decon container containing a log book. It is big enough for geocoins and small items. The cache is not hidden near graves or monuments. It is placed somewhere in the perimeter. Downslope to the cache.
The easiest approach is through the cemetery gate, off of Mill Rd. Follow the road straight ahead and turn left at the end, then past the Suckley monument. Straight ahead at the "T" turn left and park. (see parking coordinates) On the way up the hill, on the right, say hello to my mom and dad. TB for FTF. In this area of the cemetery are some famous graves: Levi P. Morton: 22nd Vice President of the United States under President Benjamin Harrison. Laura Franklin "Polly" Delano: a favorite cousin of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. (Cache is named for her. If you stand at her grave site atop of the hill, and look down the hill, you are "looking out" over the cache. It's a good starting point. Careful going down the hill. Leaves can be slippery.) Olin Dows: artist known for murals & watercolors associated wth Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt. Margaret Lynch "Daisy" Suckley: neighbor, cousin, companion and confidante of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. During the Roosevelt presidency Daisy Suckley often resided at the White House and accompanied F.D.R. on his frequent trips across the country; many times being in charge of "Fala", the Scottish Terrier that she acquired as a young pup, and raised and trained at "Wilderstein" before presenting to Roosevelt as a gift. FTF congrats to (Liz & Hawk) Birder428. I'm not surprised.
