Die erste Erwähnung war im Jahre 852 als Owe, 1190 wurde hier ein Kloster gründet. Dies wurde 1229 nach Blankenheim verlegt. Die frühere Klosterkirche ist heute eine Evangelische Kirche, sie hat einen Taufstein aus dem 12. Jahrhundert der einen großen Wert für die Kirche darstellt, aufgrund seinen hohen Alters.
