Geocache Description:

Out and Back Again: A Cacher’s Trail

I have always been a fan of J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and I thought that the stories and caching would make a nice combination. The dilemma was how to combine them. I decided that the places the characters visited would make good names for a series of caches and that I had a route that would make a good trail.

Each cache can be found as a stand-alone cache or can be done as a trail. The caches will range in size and difficulty. There are also other caches that are within the proximity of the trail route.

While there may be certain or slight similarities between a cache’s name and the location of the cache, no direct correlations are intended in order to protect the innocent.

"There's earth under his old feet, and clay on his fingers; wisdom in his bones, and both eyes are open."
—Tom Bombadil.

Farmer Maggot was a Hobbit farmer who lived in Bamfurlong in theMarish region of Eastfarthing in the Shire. He had a large turnip-field and mushrooms grew abundantly on his land. Farmer Maggot often had to deal with Hobbits, like Frodo Baggins, stealing his mushrooms and was ferocious to trespassers. Farmer Maggot was married and had at least two sons and three daughters. He owned three dogs, Grip, Fang and Wolf, used to terrify trespassers. His family served Frodo Baggins, Sam Gamgee, and Peregrin Took supper when they accidentally wound up on their farm. Farmer Maggot later drove his guests to Bucklebury ferry. A Black Rider came to Farmer Maggot and tried to bribe him to give him news of "Baggins." He was known to be acquainted with Tom Bombadil, who had a great deal of respect for him.
