The Old Newtownards Canal Cache #03 - Castlebawn Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

sgtzara: Check up today after 2 x DNF. Cache has indeed gone. Hate to archive a cache with 2 x Favourite Points but the area around the canal at GZ has got quite tatty with rubbish and this seems to be attracting our rodent friends, spotted one when looking for the cache (in daylight). Don't think it's appropriate to bring folk here anymore so no point in replacing and thus cache is archived.

Geocache Description:

A nano cache placed along the route of the old Newtownards canal.

This is a nano cache placed on the outskirts of Castlebawn retail park where the route of the old Newtownards canal runs along its perimiter.

At the cache site you can enjoy an often unseen view of the rear of Ards Priory. It's possible to walk along the path at the retail park side of the canal over to Canal Row which then brings you out onto Court Street, beside the site of the old Castle Gardens Primary School. While you're there, why not do GC23TT4 - Newtownards Historical Series #4 Ards Priory. If you walk along the path on the opposite side of the retail park from the cache site, it will bring you out onto the Comber Road, close to the back of Dairy Farm Playing fields.

The area beyond the cache is currently a dead end so you can park at the side of the road and do a quick cache and dash without any problems.

The cache contains only a log so please bring your own pen/pencil. Please put the cache back exactly how you got it to maintain its camo.
