BSA Troop 309: Be Prepared

The famous Boy Scout Motto is “Be Prepared”. The scouting program teaches how you to be prepared. This is a lesson that is ongoing as scouts learn from the many different situations they will be in away from home.

I grew up thinking "Being prepared" my whole life. Am I prepared for this camping weekend by having the proper gear? Did I study enough for my upcoming exam? Am I prepared to go on a 10 day backpacking trip in the Rocky Mountains? Have I packed everything I need for going away to college? Have I researched enough to pick the correct car and can I afford it …. All important decisions while growing up. All this before marriage, buying a house, having kids etc etc

Let’s see if you are prepared to go Geo-caching in the Edgewood Preserve today:
1. Did to tell somebody else where you are going and what you are doing, better yet are you going with a buddy?
2. Are you aware of the weather report and taking the necessary precautions (rain, snow, sun, heat, cold etc) ?
3. Do you have the proper footwear and necessary clothing on ?
4. Does your daypack have: Water bottle, food, pocket knife or multi-tool, extra batteries for your GPS, sunscreen, a cap or hat, a personnel first aid kit, pen or pencil, trading items?
5. Do you have a cell phone?

In summary, if you are prepared it makes many decisions and life much easier.
