Choo Choo Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

nessker: Sadly, longtrails and I are archiving this cache. The Oregon Zoo does not want to have geocaches in the zoo for the foreseeable future due to the pandemic. Thank you to all geocachers who have found our geocaches in the Oregon Zoo, and we hope to re-introduce zoo geocaches in the post-covid future.

This cache has been placed with permission and can only be accessed when the Oregon Zoo is open (see "Related Web Page" link for rates and hours). You are looking for a very easy to find locked 50 caliber ammo can.
This is one of my favorite places to visit in this park. The Portland Zoo Railway began operation June 9, 1958 with the Zooliner, which is still in operation today. The zoo's next train, the Centennial Steam Train, is reminiscent of the 1800s. It is painted in bright colors with polished brass trimmings with a glistening brass bell mounted on the gleaming boiler jacket between the sand dome and stack. Finally, the Oregon Express is similar in mechanics to the Zooliner. Today all three trains operate simultaneously on busy days.
The train is fun way to relax while visiting the park. It gives you a chance to see the sights and take a rest at the same time. If you want to find out more about the history of railway, click here.
To open lock: 1) turn right 3 times and stop at the 1st number; 2) turn left one full turn passing the 1st number to stop at 2nd number; 3) turn right and stop at the thrid number. Be sure to find the other three caches located on the grounds. All caches are family friendly and should contain family friendly swag.

  • Cache owners appreciate when finders provide logs about their adventures (or misadventures). Nothing more than TFTC makes us frown.
  • Please log DNFs and information about the cache's condition. It helps owners decide when to check on their cache.
