Historic AZ 66: Winslow-La Posada West Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

oldtrailsmuseum: This cache was stolen again immediately after we replaced it, so we are permanently disabling it. We're so sorry to have to do this to one of our most popular caches, but we don't have the resources to constantly replace it. Please enjoy the Old Trails Museum's other caches, which are hidden in places less visible to muggles.

Geocache Description:

This cache includes a logbook/pencil, historic image, and “First to Find” prize. It’s located on private property with the owner's permission, but beware of muggles! Look west on Second Street/Historic Route 66 to see the same view as this 1940s image. In 1926, the section of the coast-to-coast National Old Trails Road that ran from New Mexico to Los Angeles was designated U.S. Route 66, the highway linked to Winslow’s development, decline, and renewal for the remainder of the 20th century and beyond. Second image: Across the street was the Winslow Fire Department, seen here in the 1940s. Cache/images courtesy of the Old Trails Museum/Winslow Historical Society (www.oldtrailsmuseum.org). This cache is part of the Historic AZ 66 Geocaching Project (www.AZ66Geocaching.com), a series coordinated by the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona and designated an Arizona Centennial Legacy Project by the Arizona Historical Advisory Commission.
