Geocache Description:

This cache includes a logbook/pencil, historic image, and “First to Find” prize. It’s located on private property with the owner's permission. La Posada, or “the resting place,” was last grand tourism hotel built by the Fred Harvey Company, which established the nation’s first restaurant chain along the Santa Fe line in the 1870s. Both the Santa Fe and Harvey companies promoted tourism to the Southwest after 1900, and Winslow is the site of this masterpiece by architect Mary Colter. The hotel opened in 1930, closed in 1958, and served as the Santa Fe headquarters until it re-opened under private ownership in 1997. Second image: The hotel’s staff, including the famous Harvey Girls, is shown here on the South Lawn the year the hotel opened. This cache is part of the Historic AZ 66 Geocaching Project (www.AZ66Geocaching.com), a series coordinated by the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona and designated an Arizona Centennial Legacy Project by the Arizona Historical Advisory Commission.
