This cache includes a logbook/pencil, historic images, and “First to Find” prize. Look west to see the Winslow-Lindbergh Regional Airport, active today for private aviation and firefighting aircraft. Designed by Charles Lindbergh for Transcontinental Air Transport in 1929, the Winslow Municipal Airport was an important stop for cross-country flights during the 1930s and early 40s. Though the military took over the airport during World War II, commercial airlines resumed service afterward but abandoned their routes in the late 1960s due to high costs and lack of passengers. Second image: To the east is the Head Start Building, which was built as the Winslow Municipal Golf Club’s clubhouse and still features many original, hand-made architectural details. Cache/images courtesy of the Old Trails Museum/Winslow Historical Society (www.oldtrailsmuseum.org). This cache is part of the Historic AZ 66 Geocaching Project (www.AZ66Geocaching.com), a series coordinated by the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona and designated an Arizona Centennial Legacy Project by the Arizona Historical Advisory Commission.
