L’Allier, dans la plaine (de Brioude à Nevers), a conservé un fonctionnement naturel, devenu exceptionnel en Europe.
D’une part, les déplacements du lit, les crues, remodèlent constamment les rives. Vous remarquerez que la végétation riveraine présente des degrés divers d’évolution, depuis la plage nue (milieu neuf) jusqu’à la vieille forêt.
D’autre part, la rivière et sa nappe phréatique fournissent une eau de qualité à plus de la moitié des habitants d’Auvergne.
Si l’Allier avait été aménagée par le passé, comme le Rhin et le Rhône, ces deux fonctions vitales auraient été condamnées.

L'Allier, in the plain (from Brioude to Nevers), has maintained a natural function, become exceptional in Europe.
On one hand, the movement of the bed, floods, constantly reshapes the banks. Notice that the riparian vegetation presents different degrees of evolution, since the nude beach (new medium) to the old forest.
Other hand, the river and groundwater supply quality water to more than half the inhabitants of Auvergne.
If the Allier had been built in the past, like the Rhin and the Rhône, these two vital functions have been sentenced.
