Geocache Description:

This is a small Geocaching container, big enough for trackables and small items. Hidden on the edge of a wood close to Middleton St George and Durham Tees Valley Airport.

Best to attempt this when the ground is dry as it can get muddy.

Goosepool was once a farm that occupied this area. In the 1940s it was taken over to build an airfield for the war effort.

Originally known as RAF Goosepool, it was renamed RAF Middleton St George, and hosted squadrons from Canada who took part in bombing raids over Germany.

After the war the airfield was a training base for Mosquito and Lightning aircraft, before turning into a civil facility known as Teesside Airport in 1964. In 2004 it was renamed Durham Tees Valley Airport.

This Geocache is only accessible to walkers and bikers. To reach it, park in the nearby pub or housing estate car parks and walk along the path. This was originally the main route between the (now deserted) village of West Hartburn, and the nearby St George's Church, on the south side of the airport today.

The path is marked with yellow signs.
