Geocache Description:

The “Old Goats” refers to a group of guys – including the male half of the hikeatrail team - who enjoy outdoor adventures together. The name originated with their Boy Scout troop, “Old Goats” being the designation for the leaders. The logo was designed by the female half of the team’s cousin – himself an Old Goat. He drew the logo on the metal plate topping their supply box.

Five of the old Goats enjoy going on adventure treks every year, such as backpacking in Yellowstone and ocean kayaking in Canada. K. A. is one of the five. He provided some fun beginning swag for this cache (see photo; not pictured are 2 sand dollars from British Columbia) and helped us choose the location, which is in the greenbelt behind his house. We added a little kid friendly swag, in case anyone chooses to drag their young'uns to this one.

Originally, we had planned to place the cache under a small rock overhang which K. A. found when hunting for his old dog, Bo. Sensing his end was near, Bo was holed up there (see photo) and had to be carried home. (Bo - you were a good dog. Rest easy, buddy.) But when we checked out that spot, it was inaccessible due to high water. We decided we'd better find a hiding place that was a little higher up.

It might seem that access to the cache can be had from the north, but you would have to cross private property and a low water bridge to get there. We don't want trouble from the homeowner, so don't do that. We've posted parking coordinates, and it's all downhill from there. Bwah-ha-ha! PLEASE do not attempt this one in the dark, because the terrain makes some drastic changes. If there has been rain, there will be mud. The plant life will be more of an issue during the growing season, of course. We saw only a few thorns, but our Old Goat buddy assures us there will be some poison ivy around. From the parking area, there is an old sidewalk to the east of the "trail" that will help you get started. When you get near ground zero, there is no need to go more than 20 steps east of the little creek. Do NOT climb the hill, as that is private property.

Please be sure to carefully re-hide the cache exactly as you found it, as muggles do actually come through here from time to time.

***Looks like a 3-way sharing of the FTF! Hurray for Germex1, Germex 4, and GeoRizos! 3 cheers for teamwork!***
