Historical place to remember the victims caused by the Black Death.
Eine genaue Geschichte dieses Bildstocks konnte leider nicht ausfindig gemacht werden, allerdings lassen sich durch historische Aufzeichnungen die Seuchenereignisse in der Region rekonstruieren. Überliefert wird der Bildstock "Pestkreuz" genannt.

Die ersten Aufzeichnungen zum Ort "Lococz" (Lugitsch) stammen aus dem Jahre 1384 allerdings dürfte der Ort schon früher besiedelt worden sein. Etwa aus der gleichen Zeit stammen auch die ersten Nachrichten der Seuche. Von 1348-1350 wütete die Pest beispielsweise in der Oststeiermark und forderte unzaehlige Opfer. Auf diese, historisch sehr frühen Aufzeichnungen dürfte die Errichtung dieses Bauwerks aber nicht zurückzuführen sein.

Viel wahrscheinlicher ist es, dass die Pestjahre von 1675-1677 Grund der Errichtung dieses Bildstocks waren. Anlass zu dieser Vermutung geben zum Einen die zahlreichen Einträge zur Pest in den Orts-Chroniken aus der Umgebung und zum Anderen die aus der selben Zeit stammenden ähnlichen Bauwerke in der Region.

The exact historical records to this wayside shrine could not be found yet but according to the chronicles of the village and the surrounding area the happenings around the Black Death can be reconstructed. The traditional word for the shrine is "Pestkreuz" which translate literally means "Black Death Cross".

The first records to the village "Lococz" (Lugitsch) are from 1384 but the place seems to be populated earlier. Nearly from the same time the epidemic plague was mentioned the first time in this region. From 1348-1350 the Black Death caused reams of victims in eastern Styria. But these records seem to be to early to be the cause for the construction of this building.

It's much more likely that the years of Black Death between 1675 and 1677 were the reason for the construction of this wayside shrine. This is indicated by chronicles of the villages around and by several buildings in the region which look like this one.
