The Casselman rail bridge over the South Nation River was erected in 1882 at milepost 47.7 on the CN Alexandria subdivision. It is about 350 feet long and 30 feet high. The actual cache is obviously NOT located at the posted co-ordinates. They refer to the mid-point of the bridge. Do NOT go there. You must determine the actual co-ordinates of the real cache by solving the following fictitious conundrum: Two die-hard geocachers, LouWiddy and JoeBitorka from the Midland area, were searching for treasure hidden on the bridge (with the railway's approval, as if) shortly after its commissioning. In those days, the only tools available were visual. They started simultaneously at opposite ends of the bridge exactly 0.5 furlongs apart. A geocache had been placed (with the railway's consent) at the mid-point of a straight line between them. Train service had been suspended pending the conclusion of the search. Joe approached the cache at an average speed of 45.174857 kiloverst/leap-year while Lou maintained a mean velocity of 0.8316 megafathoms/fortnight along the track. In order to determine the co-ordinates of the real cache today on terra firma, you must first conclude which of the two cachers arrived at the treasure first and how much earlier (in seconds) than the other. Search time at GZ is assumed to be negligible. Co-ordinates of the real cache are determined as: N45 19.xxx W075 04.yyy where xxx is the absolute value of the difference between 1119 and 31 times the number of seconds calculated above, and yyy = 325 if Joe arrived first or 276 if Lou arrived first at the cache.
