This area truly has a rich and fascinating history and heritage. One could literally spend a lifetime studying this history. But if you are like me, reading all kinds of books telling the history still doesn’t give me a good sense of what that history means. I need something visual, something I can touch to more fully understand and appreciate the significance.
That’s why I am so pleased with the efforts being made to keep our local history alive through a museum and exhibit center.
This cache is placed on the grounds of the Spikebuck/Quannassee Homestead Exhibit in Hayesville, as encouragement to spend some time studying the museum and exhibits to gain a better understanding and appreciation the heritage it represents.
There is a saying (I don’t know who the author is) that, “Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it”.
