Holy Family Cemetery - A Bit of Olde Ireland Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

iowaPete: Looks like the bridge which held the Final for this cache is a goner. Instead, there is a series of three small plastic culvert tubes and a bit of cement and gravel to hold it all together. [V]

Time to say goodbye. This was a favorite hide of mine. So grateful to all of you who came out to try your luck. Maybe next Spring, I'll come up with something else...

Geocache Description:

Traditional 2-part cache that's kid-friendly

Welcome to the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery near the New Melleray Abbey. The church and cemetery were established around 1850. This is a peaceful place that I pass by often. I just felt it would be a terrific place to draw geocachers. The cemetery is still considered active, but there is a section of grand historical markers that are worth the time to wander through and view. The influence of Irish immigrants can be easily seen here. Many markers indicate that the deceased had various counties in Ireland as their native homes. Birthdates going as far back as BEFORE 1800 are seen here. The cemetery is well kept, quiet, and tranquil. It is my hope that you take a few moments to reflect on the history of this place while you're tracking down the needed elements to secure this cache.

The listed coordinates will take you to the marker of one, Mary M. Kennedy. Find the month and day of her birth -- ABC. Then, find the month and day of her death -- DEF.

Calculate the final coords: N 42 23. (B) (B+C) (A+B). W090 48. (F) (E-D) (F-D-E).

The cache is a small magnetized 1 lb. ointment jar with a bit a swag, a log book, pencil and a travel bug to start. Please trade fairly, CITO when appropriate. Please, no night caching, and respect those who may be here to honor a loved one. I hope you enjoy your visit.
