Geocache Description:

The backwoods of Long Lake Provinicial Park not far from Spruce Hill Lake.
This series of caches are not for the faint hearted. Approximately 8-10km round trip on a challenging trail & challenging hides. The coords will take you to within 3 m of cache (checked with Garmin Map60CSx, Map76CSx, Oregon300). The rest is up to you!!

The cache is located along a section of the 'Old Coach Road' (Foses Hill Trail) that connects the communities of Goodwood on Highway 333 and that of Harrietsfield along Highway 306. This road was called Foss Hill Road named for Philip Foss, a German baker who was granted several holdings for a woodlot in the 1770's.
Benjamin Umlah of Goodwood and Charlotte Yeadon of Spryfield farmed and raised their famlies on Foses Hill. The farm at Foses Hill remained in the Unlah family from 1845-1950.
Spruce Hill Lake was dammed in 1869 to provide water to Halifax via Long Lake. The dam raised the lake level by 12' and caused Foses and Spruce Hill Lake to join.
The hike will take you along an old road that has been washed out from a century of erosion and human abuse (irresponsible ATV's) It is very wet in spots and perhaps easier to navigate when the ground is frozen. Most of the water holes can be traversed without to much difficulty. Depending on the season, wet feet are definitly a possiblity, spare socks, proper hiking boots and long pants are highly recommended.
