Geocache Description:

I switched this micro cache to a nano cache. It is an easy park and grab cache created to let people know the history of this quaint little town. Clinton Mills, located three miles east of Churubusco in the Town of Clinton, was once a bustling village. The railroad came to this area in 1850. With the abundance of standing timber, logging operations boomed, creating hundreds of jobs. R.W. Adams & Co., the country's third largest lumbering outfit at the time, ran a large steam mill here. Lumber from Clinton Mills was shipped all over the world. In the 1860's this was one of the busiest places in the area. In 1877 multiple fires raged in Clinton County, literally burning down Clinton Mills, destroying the saw mills and homes. Much was rebuilt only to be destroyed by fire again in 1888. Although the community struggled to survive, the thinning forest led to the demise of the lumber industry which held the community together. Today only a few houses and an abondoned railroad bed remain.
