Geocache Description:

Trailhead for horseback riding in the Machickanee.

The Oconto County Forest is composed of approximately 43,345 acres, with 15 forest cover types comprising the commercial forest. The administrative offices are located in the Courthouse in Oconto and the field headquarters are located on County Trunk N in Oconto.
The Machickanee Forest is a 3,100-acre unit of the Oconto County Forest. Located just east of Oconto, the forest is bisected by a 2,200-acre bulge in the Oconto River called the Machickanee Flowage. The forest is a site for birders, horseback riders, snowmobilers, hunters and hikers, while the flowage is popular with anglers, particularly in winter. There are miles of hiking, snowmobile, and horse trails that access the property.
The horseback riding trails are maintained by the Outback Riders, Inc.
Outback Riders, Inc. was established to create and maintain a public bridle path in the Machickanee Forest and the Oconto River Trail in accordance with the Special Recreational Use Permit granted by the Oconto County Forestry & Parks Department; to hold family oriented equine related social activities and fundraisers.

The Outback Riders operate as a non-profit corporation in accordance with the laws of the state of Wisconsin.
